Museum staff has been collecting and researching all of the creative ways diving has been incorporated into pop culture for over 100 years.

But, dive a little deeper and you'll sea that the real treasure of this event is in creating an awareness for ocean conservation and swimming safely with mermaid tails.   • The Big Pine & Lower Keys Rotary Club’s annual Independence Day celebration fireworks are to take place at Big Pine Community Park, MM 30 bayside, at the end of Sands Road. Live music, food and drink are to be accompanied by games and activities for adults and kids alike. The fireworks show is planned to begin at nightfall or about 9 p.m. Admission is free and gates open at 5 p.m. Please, no coolers, pets or personal fireworks.

  • Co-hosted by the Upper Keys Rotary Club and the Village of Islamorada, the Independence Day Celebration at Founders Park, mile marker 87, is to be held from 6-10 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark. Food is to be available for purchase through vendors including Chef Drew’s Island Catering, Craig’s Island Time, Green Turtle Inn Roadside BBQ, M.E.A.T. Eatery & Taproom and Polar Ice. Drinks including beer, rum punch, soda and water available for purchase from the Rotary Club with proceeds to benefit the Upper Keys Rotary Foundation. Live entertainment is to be provided by The Carousers. The National Anthem will be performed by Bell. On-site parking will be available with a suggested donation of $10 per vehicle. No coolers or outside food. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.

  • Since 1976, the Rotary Club of Key West has presented the island’s annual fireworks show. Staged from the Edward B. Knight Pier (formerly called White Street Pier) overlooking the Atlantic Ocean where White Street meets Atlantic Avenue, fireworks are to begin at 9 p.m. Attendees can purchase food, drinks, burgers and hot dogs to benefit the Rotary Club’s scholarship funds at a booth across from the pier on Atlantic Avenue.

  • Join the History of Diving Museum as they team up with the PADI dive organization to celebrate Women's Dive Day/Weekend. Fun for the whole family with a special program, custom scavenger hunts, free gift and more. Saturday at 2:30 p.m., NASA Aquanaut Adele Luta is to be streaming LIVE from Jules Undersea Lodge. Adele and her team will be spending 24 continuous hours underwater in a marine habitat. This special presentation will include a Q&A session. Seating is limited with paid admission to the Museum.

  • Each month the History of Diving Museum features a guest speaker covering topics from all aspects of the diving industry and the marine environment. Join Lauren Maples, a Dive Operations Specialist III, with the Training Department at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory.  This lab is located at the NASA Johnson Space Center and helps astronauts train for space expeditions.  Learn about the similarities and differences between underwater training and space training. Starts at 7 p.m., on Zoom. To request a spot, email programs@divingmuseum.org to get your sign in information.

  • A rich roster of literary events awaits fans of fine writing during Hemingway Days 2021, set for Tuesday through Sunday, July 20-25. Highlights include the announcement and reading of the winning entry in the renowned Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition, directed by Ernest Hemingway’s author granddaughter, paired with the Key West Poetry Guild’s reading of “Papa’s Poems” and guild members’ work. The unique event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 — the 122nd anniversary of Ernest Hemingway’s birth — at the Key West Library, 700 Fleming St.

  • Key West’s annual Hemingway Days features artisans and food vendors displaying and selling their wares during the Caribbean Street Fair on world-renowned Duval Street. This year’s event takes place from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. A portion of Duval Street is closed to vehicular traffic and alive with Hemingwayesque flair, color and excitement. Proceeds benefit Literacy Volunteers of America(LVA)-Monroe County, Inc. LVA provides free, confidential one-to-one tutoring in reading, writing and conversational English for adult students.
