Symphony to Feature Violinist Tessa Lark Jan. 26 in Key West

KEY WEST, Florida — Aficionados of classical music can enjoy a performance by the South Florida Symphony featuring acclaimed violinist Tessa Lark at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in Key West. Titled "Ubermensch (Superman)," the concert is a highlight of the symphony's 2017 Masterworks season and takes place at the Tennessee Williams Theatre, 5901 College Road.

Lark is to display her artistry on Erich Korngold's "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra." The program also features Richard Strauss' famed "Also sprach Zarathustra" and the world premiere of "The Legend of Bird Mountain" by composer Tom Hormel.

Renowned for her blend of technical prowess and musical elegance, Lark has appeared with leading orchestras including the Santa Fe Symphony and Louisville Orchestra. Also a passionate chamber musician, she has showcased her talent in recitals at venues including Carnegie Hall. She is the recipient of a 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Naumburg International Violin Award among many other honors.

Led by award-winning conductor and Key West native Sebrina María Alfonso, the South Florida Symphony comprises some of the United States' most sought-after professional musicians and world-renowned soloists.

Before the January performance, attendees can enjoy a "symphony chat" with classical pianist and music historian Edward Pitts at the Tennessee Williams Theatre.

The season's Masterworks series also includes concerts titled "Order by Disorder" Feb. 22 with pianist Svetlana Smolina and "Untamed Spirit" April 4 featuring pianist Jeffrey Biegel.

In addition, the symphony is to present a March 20 homage to Tony Award-winning musicals titled "And the Tony Goes to ..." with eight vocal soloists.
