Key West Historic Seaport to Spotlight Art and Music March 4

KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Unique arts and crafts, lively musical entertainment and a day strolling the Key West Historic Seaport await attendees to the 17th annual Open Air Art & Music Affair set for Saturday, March 4.

Headquartered at the Schooner Wharf Bar, 202 William St., the popular event provides a showcase for approximately 50 artists and crafters from the Florida Keys and other locales — as well as local and visiting musicians and bands.

Art exhibitions are to begin at 10 a.m. Live music from the Schooner Wharf's stage is scheduled from midmorning until midnight.

Attendees can view and purchase the work of artists and crafters along the harborwalk between Elizabeth and William streets, displayed against the seaport's colorful panorama of tall ships and excursion vessels.

Artistic offerings are to range from the whimsical to the functional. Items on display typically include decorative window art, woodcarvings, handcrafted jewelry, original oils and acrylics, ceramics and painted feathers.

As well as showcasing their wares, participating artists are to provide demonstrations of creativity including jewelry making, painting and glass bead blowing.

Michael McCloud is slated to kick off the day's live music, backed by Captain Carl and Professor Pete. Songwriter/humorist McCloud is a veteran of the local music scene whose performances combine insightful original tunes, laid-back showmanship and witty banter.

Featured next is the Peter Pan Syndrome, a trio that performs a blend of Americana, folk, rock, pop, reggae and Latin music spiced with steel pan and conga rhythms. The evening's headliner is the four-piece Josh Garrett Band, whose Louisiana blues and multigenre offerings cross musical borders to create a unique and soulful sound.

Throughout the day both music and art are to complement the vibrant creative atmosphere of the event, the Schooner Wharf Bar and the Key West Historic Seaport.
