A Dozen Slams Clinch the Win at Spring Bonefish and Redfish Shootout

ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys — Rob Preihs of Islamorada took top honors at the annual Jim Bokor Islamorada All-Tackle Bonefish and Redfish Shootout that ended March 10.

Rules of the all-release event dictate that an angler needs a "slam" consisting of a redfish and bonefish combination to be named grand champion. Preihs and Islamorada Captain Mark Gilman scored 12 slams, earning the win with 3,600 points.

The duo also caught and released the event's largest redfish, measuring 32.5 inches.

The title of runner-up grand champ went to veteran tournament angler Jim Bokor, Jr., of Buffalo, New York, guided by Captain Jared Raskob of Key Largo, Florida. The team landed five slams and earned 1,500 points. They also secured the award for the most bonefish releases with 15.

Anglers from mainland Florida, New York and Texas participated in this year's event, releasing a total of 50 bonefish and 48 redfish over three days of fishing.

The long-running tournament is named in recognition of Jim Bokor, Sr., for his flats-fishing prowess and passionate support of Florida Keys angling.
