Visitors are returning to the Florida Keys after Hurricane Ike passed by the island chain staying far enough away to keep hurricane-force winds from impacting the island, but close enough so that local officials called for a Sept. 6 visitor evacuation.

Damage assessments indicated the region’s infrastructure is in excellent shape following Ike. Click the play button on the video controls at left to watch a video news release on the Keys after Ike.

All spot Key West footage was shot the day after Ike passed.

Hotels, attractions and restaurants throughout the island chain are operating as usual and visitors are encouraged to make lodging reservations before traveling to the Keys.
