MARATHON, Florida Keys — To intrigue those interested in aviation, Marathon has two exciting events on tap for visitors “dropping in” to America’s southernmost island chain in November.

Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 5-8, up to 250 jumpers from Florida and beyond are to land in the Keys on a 120-mph breeze during the Keys Boogie skydiving weekend. The popular event is to be hosted by Skydive Sebastian, a recreational and educational skydiving center located in Sebastian, Fla.

During the Keys Boogie, nonjumpers interested in the sport can mingle with instructors and experienced skydivers to learn about training and jumping.

Registration for the event is $45 for skydivers and includes access to a jump ticket (but not the jump ticket itself).

In addition, Skydive Sebastian is to offer a tandem-skydive program where a newcomer to the sport is strapped to a professional jumpmaster who opens the canopy (parachute) and guides the jump.

The tandem jump costs $225 and can be booked online or paid for at the event. A video of the entire jump can be purchased for an additional $95.

Spots are limited and fill up quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Call (800) 399-JUMP (800-399-5867) to schedule.

For more information about the Keys Boogie, contact Amanda Owens at (772) 388-5672 or visit Skydive Sebastian’s Web site.

The much-anticipated annual Aviation Day at the Florida Keys Marathon Airport is set for Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sponsored by the Florida Keys Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the family-friendly event is to showcase several different aircraft including World War II military aircraft (War Birds), home-built aircraft, new airplanes and planes in government service such as aero medical rescue and law enforcement, as well as the Keys’ vital mosquito control.

Through the EAA’s Young Eagles program, young people ages 8 through 17 can get free planes rides, with proper permission.

This event is free and open to the public at the airport, located at 9400 Overseas Highway bayside. Food and beverages are to be available for purchase.

For information about area lodging during the events, contact the Marathon Chamber of Commerce at (305) 743-5417 or (800) 262-7284, or explore this Web site.
